We frequently review our appointment system and make changes to help deal with the increasing workload. Please consider when calling if you need to see a doctor or if another member or staff might be able to help.
You are still able to book appointments in advance with the Doctor of your choice. This is useful for routine reviews, and follow-up appointments.
If you need to urgently be seen on the day we provide an Emergency Surgery in the morning. Unfortunately we cannot guarantee which doctor or nurse practitioner you will see during this clinic. These appointments are for a single urgent problem.
Routine appointments can be made in person, via telephone or directly online via the above link. Please request your own personal account details and password from reception in order to use the online service.
If telephoning the please call 01935 813438 Reception hours are Monday - Friday 08:00 - 18:30. Please be aware that our phone system does not allow for an engaged tone, it will keep ringing even if all staff members are on the telephone. Please be assured that we are answering the phone, and if it rings for a long time it may be that the receptionists are on other calls.
For routine appointments please allow approximately ten minutes. These appointments are designed to deal with one problem for one patient. Please ask for more time or arrange a second appointment for other concerns. The doctor may not have time to deal with other problems that arise and cannot see extra patients brought with you to your consultation.
We believe in continuing personal care and our staff will offer you the soonest available appointment with your usual doctor.
If you have a problem that needs to be seen urgently on the same day, you will be offered a time slot if there is availability. If all appointments are full you will be seen as an extra during surgery. For these appointments you may not see your usual doctor and you may have to wait to be seen.
We do have a number of appointments outside of normal office hours to enable those of you who work to see a doctor without taking time off work. An earlier surgery is run on a Wednesday morning and a later surgery is run on a Thursday evening. Please do not book these appointments if you are able to get to the surgery during the day.
If you have a problem which you feel can be dealt with over the telephone by speaking to a doctor, please call our reception team, who will request that the doctor phones you back. This may not be immediately, and could be after surgeries have ended.
Advanced Nurse Practitioners
Our Nurse Practitioners will be able to diagnose and treat problems that you have had for no longer than two weeks. They can order investigations such as X-rays and blood tests, if you require them. The Nurse Practitioners can also refer to specialists, if required, however, more long term problems should be seen by the patients usual GP.
In a number of cases it might be worth considering an appointment with a practice nurse rather than a doctor. Practice nurses are qualified to deal with many conditions and you may be seen more quickly. Please ask a receptionist.
We are committed to giving the best possible service to our patients so would ask you to:
- Arrange appointments as far in advance as possible
- Please help other patients by not requesting urgent appointments for a problem that can wait a day or two
- Let us know if you cannot keep your appointment so it can be used by someone else.
- Use the automated touch screen to check in or report to reception on arrival for your appointment.
IMPROVED ACCESS TO GENERAL PRACTICE SERVICE (IAGPS)
The aim of this service is to provide extra primary care appointments for the North Dorset locality area outside core practice hours. Its aim is to be regarded as an extension of General practice and will be staffed by local GP's, nurse practitioners, practice nurses and HCA's who will provide a mix of primary care appointments.
There will be appointments in a number of towns in the locality including Sherborne, Shafesbury and Gillingham. In Sherborne, there will be GP appointments available on a Saturday and healthcare assistant appointments on Sundays for dressings. Appointments for these services can be booked 48 hours in advance for the GP and up to 7 days in advance for dressings. Our receptionists are able to book these appointments for you if you would struggle to make an appointment within core hours.
